"Daniel Boone" é uma série de TV que retrata o dia-a-dia de colonizadores norte-americanos. Os temas mostrados abordam, dentre outros, o relacionamento entre brancos e índios, conquista de territórios, venda ilegal de armas, destruição de casas e a ação inescrupulosa de caçadores de recompensas. O herói, na verdade, é o reaproveitamento de outro, chamado Davy Crokett (também interpretado por Fess Parker). O mesmo surgiu em 1954, em episódios da série de TV "Disneylândia".

"Daniel Boone" estreou com grande sucesso em território americano - pela Rede NBC - em Setembro de 1964. Em pouco tempo, já era tema de HQs, brinquedos e lancheiras. Algumas críticas, no entanto, foram feitas pelo fato da produção por vezes confundir história com ficção (o verdadeiro Boone, por exemplo, tinha dez filhos e não dois como mostra a série).

O programa é ambientado no final do século 18, época em que Boone se estabeleceu com a esposa Rebecca, dois filhos e um índio cherokee chamado Mingo. Gravada em ambientes naturais, "Daniel Boone" fez grande sucesso, em especial no Estados Unidos, onde a figura do explorador de fronteiras é extremamente glorificada.

Muitos astros conhecidos da época trabalharam como convidados na série. Dentre eles, podemos citar Dick Sargent, Kurt Russel, Cesar Romero, James Doohan, Michael Rennie, Peter Graves e Edward Mulhare.

Em 1977 a Rede CBS fez uma tentativa de reviver o personagem, através de um remake intitulado "O Jovem Daniel Boone". Não deu certo. Os índices ficaram abaixo do esperado e apenas quatro episódios foram produzidos.
Curiosidades
- O ator Fess Parker abandonou carreira artística em 1973. Por contrato, tinha direito a 30% dos lucros da série. Aficcionado por vinhos, tornou-se construtor imobiliário e proprietário da vinícola Fess Parker’s Winery e Vineyard. Comprou um hotel em 1998, na época chamado "The Grand Hotel", em Los Olivos, na Califórnia. Parker faleceu em 2010, aos 85 anos, de causas naturais;
- A atriz Patricia Blair faleceu em 2013, aos 80 anos, vitimada por câncer de mama;
- A popularidade do personagem Mingo (vivido pelo ator Ed Ames) era enorme. Em dado momento, o número de cartas que recebia dos fãs chegou a superar o de Fess Parker;
- Apesar de muito querido, Ed Ames não atuou nas duas últimas temporadas da série;
- O ator Richard Boone (O Paladino do Oeste) e o ator e cantor Pat Boone são descendentes diretos do verdadeiro Daniel Boone;
- Nos Estados Unidos, a série "Daniel Boone" foi totalmente lançada em DVD;
- No Brasil, a empresa Focus Filmes - por puro desconhecimento - lançou a segunda temporada em DVD considerando ser essa a primeira fase do programa. Na verdade, os episódios da primeira temporada foram filmados em preto e branco e por conta disso deixaram de ser exibidos entre nós desde o advento da TV colorida no Brasil;
- Consta que a Focus Filmes pretendia lançar as demais temporadas da série, mas o fato de estar lançando episódios com a dublagem da AIC SP teria sido um fator impeditivo por conta de direitos conexos;
- Os episódios de "Disneylândia", com Fess Parker vivendo Davy Crockett, foram mostrados entre nós pela TV Tupi Canal 4 de São Paulo;
- "Daniel Boone" estreou por aqui via TV Record Canal 7 de SP, na segunda-feira de 07 de Abril de 1969, as 18h00. Foi depois exibida pela TV Bandeirantes (1973) e pela TV Globo (1978);
- O episódio duplo "The High Cumberland", do final da segunda temporada, foi adaptado para exibição em circuito comercial de cinemas. No Brasil, foi exibido em 1967 sob o título de "A Conquista do Kentucky".
