"As Aventuras de Rin Tin Tin" é uma série de TV voltada para o público infantil, que tem como foco o pequeno Cabo Rusty (Aaker), um menino que ficou orfão durante um ataque de índios, que é criado pelos soldados de um posto da cavalaria dos Estados Unidos conhecido como Forte Apache. A seu lado, um cão da raça pastor alemão, chamado Rin Tin Tin. O elenco fixo do programa inclui ainda o ator James E. Brown no papel do Tenente Rip Masters.

Os episódios foram elaborados com um orçamento muito baixo, o que determinou inclusive que a série fosse filmada em preto e branco. As externas foram gravadas em sua maior parte no Corriganville Movie Ranch, a noroeste de Los Angeles, no Simi Valley, onde a produção fez amplo uso da instalação do Forte Apache. As cenas de ação foram filmadas no Iverson Movie Ranch, em Chatsworth, Califórnia.

Vez por outra, apareciam como convidados atores ou atrizes que depois se tornariam mais conhecidos do grande público. São os casos de Lee Van Cleef, Harry Dean Stanton e Robert Fuller.

Depois de sua transmissão original, a Rede ABC promoveu reprises entre Setembro de 1959 e Setembro de 1961. Um novo pacote de reprises fora levado a efeito pela Rede CBS entre Setembro de 1962 e Setembro de 1964. O último pacote de que se tem notícia foi levado ao ar entre 1976 e 1980, época em que as impressões originais da série foram pintadas de marron claro, com novos segmentos de abertura e fechamento filmados em cores.

Consta que nos anos 90 os episódios da série foram totalmente remasterizados e colorizados pela Cerulean Digital Color And Animation. Algumas cenas foram remarcadas e o tema de abertura utilizado é totalmente diferente do original.

No Brasil, as primeiras ocorrências de transmissão da série datam de Setembro de 1960, através da TV Tupi Canal 4 de São Paulo, sextas-feiras, 20h00. Em tempos iniciais de TV a Cabo, foi exibida no canal Warner, ainda com a dublagem original.
