"Mod Squad" é uma série policial que foi apresentada nos Estados Unidos entre 1968 e 1973. O piloto foi gravado ainda em 1968, mas nunca foi exibido na íntegra. O mesmo foi editado e exibido como sendo o primeiro episódio do programa.

O foco eram três jovens infratores que, para não serem presos, eram recrutados por um capitão da polícia de Los Angeles para solucionarem casos envolvendo criminosos. A série inovou na ocasião por tratar de assuntos polêmicos de uma sociedade que discutia políticas raciais e drogas, dentre outras coisas.

Pouca gente sabe, mas a narrativa apresentada em cada episódio era baseada em experiências pessoais do próprio Bud Ruskin, criador do programa, que na década de 50 comandou uma esquadra policial de narcóticos, onde trabalhava de forma disfarçada.

"Mod Squad" foi um dos primeiros programas de televisão a caracterizar um afro-americano como estrela, em pé de igualdade com personagens tradicionais. Na ocasião, isso já havia ocorrido com "Jornada nas Estrelas" e "Julia".

Vários rostos conhecidos apareceram como convidados em "Mod Squad": Carolyn Jones, Leslie Nielsen, Richard Pryor, Vincent Price, Martin Sheen, Ed Asner e Sammy Davis Jr, dentre outros.

Curiosidades
- Durante o tempo de produção da série, vários foram os transtornos causados por Michael Cole com relação ao consumo excessivo de bebidas alcoólicas. Tal problema só foi superado pelo ator após fazer um severo tratamento na Clínica Betty Ford, nos anos 90;
- Peggy Lipton foi casada com o maestro Quincy Jones entre 1974 e 1990;
- Tige Andrews usava uma peruca para esconder sua calvície;
- Toda a série já foi disponibilizada em DVD no exterior.

Seis anos após o cancelamento da série, em 18 de maio de 1979, a Rede ABC exibiu um telefilme denominado “The Return of Mod Squad”, reunindo novamente o elenco original. Vinte anos depois, em 1999, a MGM produziu um remake para cinema, denominado “The Mod Squad”. No elenco, Giovanni Ribisi, Omar Epps, Claire Danes e Denis Farina. O filme não foi um sucesso de bilheteria.

No Brasil, "Mod Squad" estreou no dia 03 de Setembro de 1969, uma quarta-feira, as 21h30, através da extinta TV Tupi Canal 4 de SP. Em 1972 migrou para a TV Globo. Em 1976 voltou a ser exibida pela TV Tupi. Em 1979 migrou para a TV Record, onde permaneceu no ar até o ano de 1982.

Segundo o colecionador Gilberto Patriota, a série foi dublada pela Cine Castro - Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo. A locução, na abertura de cada episódio, anunciava "ABC Filmes do Brasil apresenta Mod Squad".
