Jason King era originalmente o personagem de uma série chamada Departamento S, que teve 28 episódios, tendo sido produzida entre 1.969 e 1.970. A exemplo de Departamento S, Jason King também é de origem inglesa, tendo sido exibida originalmente entre setembro de 1.971 e abril de 1.972, nos EUA. A música tema foi composta por Laurie Johnson, o mesmo maestro que compôs a trilha sonora de "Os Vingadores" (The Avengers).

Falar a respeito de King não deixa de ser divertido. Suas aventuras são baseadas no fato dele ser um escritor de novelas e se envolver em intrigas. O personagem possui hábitos no mínimo diferentes: reside a maior parte do tempo num apartamento luxuoso de Paris, fala diversas línguas, gosta de começar o dia com um pequeno almoço que inclui morangos e champanhe, anda de Rolls Royce e veste roupas exóticas que incluem ternos extravagantes. O personagem era um sujeito sarcástico, afetado, que ganhava todas as garotas como se ele fosse o cara mais lindo do mundo. E tudo feito com seriedade.

Jason King foi interpretado pelo ator Peter Wyngarde, um tipo acentuadamente feio, com cabelo enorme, bigode ao estilo de Charles Bronson e uma fisionomia que lembra muito o personagem "Seu Madruga", da série mexicana "Chaves".

Participou como convidado de outras séries inglesas como "Os Vingadores" (The Avengers), "O Barão" (The Baron) e "O Santo" (The Saint). O seriado não deixou marcas de saudade nos brasileiros mas ainda é cultivado pelos ingleses. Possui site na Internet e já teve todos os seus episódios lançados em DVD.
